ASUNCION: Some Uruguayan internationals were suspended by South American soccer organization CONMEBOL on Wednesday as a result of events that occurred during the Copa America semifinal matchup against Colombia in July.
Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez will be out for five Uruguay fixtures, while Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was banned for four matches. Uruguay’s next World Cup qualifying matches are scheduled for September 6 at home against Paraguay and September 7 against Venezuela. Additionally, Núñez will be absent from the games in October against Ecuador and Peru as well as the home game in November versus Colombia at Nunez is suspended for five games and Bentancur for four following a scuffle during the Copa America.
